Artist Development Day & Masterclass with Sonia Sabri

Morning Session

For the first part of the day Sonia Sabri will be leading a dance masterclass accompanied by live musician Sarvar Sabri. Sonia Sabri is a multi-award-winning dance artist, choreographer and movement director and Artistic Director of Sonia Sabri Company. She is one of the world’s leading Kathak dancers, creating work that spans from the presentation of classical roots of Kathak to explorations of contemporary approaches, her productions reflect an appreciation of Western and Eastern cultures.

Sarvar Sabri is an internationally renowned tabla player and composer whose versatility and passion for rich diversity of the world’s musical traditions has spurred him to experiment with other worlds-class musicians, composers and dancers. A top-grade awardee of All India Radio, he has worked with the world’s leading vocalists, musicians and dancers.

Afternoon Session

The afternoon of the Artist Development day will be a workshop exploring trauma informed dance practice delivered by Jane McLean and Rachel Gnagniko – using the 6 principles of trauma informed practice as a structure we’ll explore how they feel in the body and how we consider them in practical delivery of dance.
