Chinese and South East Asian Dance performances
Movema specialists perform a range of beautiful dances from the different regions of China, Malaysia & SE Asia including Fan Dance, Peacock dance and the graceful and dynamic forms of modern Chinese dance and martial arts. We also create performances fusing Chinese movement with contemporary dance and other movement approaches. As well as combining and celebrate diversity.
New Work
Taking Flight is one of Movema’s new projects featuring four ‘birds’ telling stories of migration & movement.

Crowds cheered as the mass of dancers grew, busting some Kung Fu inspired movements and ending in a fun rendition of K-POP Gangnam Style with our very own tribute to PSY!

Bristol Mini Moon Festival
San Jiao is a contemporary, urban and Chinese dance trio, featuring fans which was later expanded to a performance with 6 dancers.
Developed in collaboration with musician and festival curator Makala Cheung.
Dance material was developed using the I Ching, by throwing coins to create yin and yang lines. The lines make up hexagrams, each with a different meaning, archetype or possibility, as described in the ancient I Ching (Book of Change).
Choreographed by Penny Caffrey (Movema Co-director) with Helen Wilson (RISE dance) and Issie Lloyd (Funk Supreme).
