As part of Movema’s yearly programme, we both organise and participate in a number of cultural festivals and events.
Some of our regular festivals include: Africa Oyé, Light Night, Bold Street Festival, Chinese New Year and Brouhaha International Carnival in Liverpool and we are please to add Bristol Harbour Festival to the list in 2013.
Since 2009 Movema have collaborated with Africa Oyé to provide dance, music, crafts and holistic therapies from the Oyé Active Zone. This annual event is the largest African music festival in the UK, regularly bringing artists from across the world to perform for thousands of locals and visitors in Sefton Park, Liverpool.

Chinese New Year
Each year Movema contribute to Chinese New Year through community workshops and performances.
In February 2013 we presented ‘Dancing Snake’ a surprise Flash Mob of 40+ dancers, dance enthusiasts and acrobatic performers from Airborn Academy.
Crowds cheered as the mass of dancers grew, busting some Kung Fu inspired movements and ending in a fun rendition of K-POP Gangnam Style with our very own tribute to PSY!
A Bloco is a group of people who come together to dance and parade as part of a carnival. Each year Movema invite the whole community from children to adults, professional dancers to those who have never danced before, to dress up in bright costumes and storm the streets in Carnivals including Brouhaha International and Brazilica. Movema love to dance alongside NW percussion legends Batala Liverpool and LIVEBrazil collaborators SambaBeat.
Yet again in summer 2013 Movema Bloco will be back and there will be opportunities to be involved no matter of experience or background. In preparation for the summer parades and performances we will be running a series of sessions at The Black-E.
Touring Dance Hub and Festival Zone
Movema has created a Dance Hub package of workshops, demonstrations, performances and participatory activities, taking participants on a magical journey across the globe.
This hub can be taken to more or less any outdoor or indoor festival anywhere in the world. So if you are organising a festival and would like some exciting and uplifting activities, Movema can create a dance zone for families, children, adults or a more bespoke audience.
As well as dance, we have a great network of other arts, sports, therapies and complimentary activities to make your festival a success.
See more info about the Oyé Active Zone for our recent Dance Hub activities at Africa Oyé.
