The Oyé Active Zone returns for 2015! People of all ages and backgrounds will have the chance to try dance, music and arts activities throughout the weekend lead by top local and international companies. ALL FOR FREE!

2015 Running Order – Oye Active Zone

Saturday:

13.00 – 13.30 – Zumba – Movema – Will Hernandez
A special edition of the International dance-fitness phenomenon incorporating rhythms from the African Diaspora!

14.00 – 14:30 – Unlock the Box Dance session – Movema – Paul Doyle & Willheim Hernandez
Get a taste of our Youth Project ‘Unlock the Box’ in this fun workshop mixing styles from all around the world with street and hip hop.

15:00 – 15:30 – Congolese Dance – International Main stage artist Gordon Masiala
Special workshop with Gordon Masiala and his dancers all the way from the Congo, come and learn traditional moves.

16:00 – 16:30 – Afro-Caribbean Dance – Movema – Ithalia Forel
Movema will get the crowd dancing around the world, with high energy dance session.

17:00 – 17:30 – Unlock the Box Youth Dance Battle in partnership with Afrobeats Liverpool
Under 30’s come and show us your moves and win prizes!

13.00 – 13.30 – ‘World In A Box’ Family Session – Movema – Penny Caffrey
A great session for all the family to join in using props and instruments dancing to exciting rhythms from around the world.

14:00 – 14.30 – West Africa Performance and Dance – MDI –Lamin Dumbuya
Back by popular demand! The wonderful Lamin brings his joyous west African class and performances to the Active Zone.

15.00 – 15:30 – Samba de Roda – Movema – Maria Malone
Dancing and singing combine in this wonderful workshop celebrating traditions from Afro-Brazilian culture.

16:00 – 16:30 – Capoeira – Capoeira for All – Instructor Açouguiero
Capoeira is a fascinating afro-brazilian art form combining elements of dance, martial art, music and culture. Suitable for ages 5+

17:00 – 17:30 – World Fusion – Movema – Movema dancers
Packed full of vibrant moves and music celebrating diversity and providing an energising cultural experience!

The Oyé Active Zone is FREE and open to everyone! The whole cultural programme is focused on promoting health & wellbeing, learning and participation.
